Title: reconnected wire
Post by: magnum1 on May 29, 2010, 05:14:35 PM
I hope this is a straightforward question but the answer sure has eluded me! Simply put, I have a single length of wire from a ceiling light to a second light both on one switch. Worked fine.
I had to cut the wire from the first light just ahead of where it went through a bulkhead where it connected to a second ceiling light on the other side. After the cut the wire was re-connected with wire nuts and installed into a box. Now the light from which the wire was cut won't work. What did I do wrong?? Any help would be gratefully appreciated. ???

I would suggest checking connections at the box and the fixture, you can also check to see if you have voltage at the fixture. It may even be just the light bulb.

There is power to all points, the switch, the wire going to the fixture as well as the bulb housing and the second fixture at the other end. Tried a new bulb and it makes no difference.
Thanks.

Using a meter, make sure you have the correct voltage at the fixture and that the hot and neutral are connected properly.  If you have done that and it is correct, the only possibility left is perhaps the socket, a connection in the fixture or the light bulb, that is unless it is a florescent fixture than it will have a ballast.
