2 core cable twisted with power cable

Hello,
I have recently moved into a house and am doing some renovations. I was in the roof earlier today running an antenna lead and saw a power adaptor that I didn't know what was for.
Upon tracing it, I found it has been twisted and taped together (with contact) to a 2-core cable that is for our front gate (a strike lock).
Could someone explain whether this is a method to make the 2-core cable able to be run for longer lengths or whether this may be a requirement of the security system installed. I am also interested because I may be changing this security system to another brand and model and want to know whether I should leave the power twisted in or whether I should take it out when changing the system.
Thanks!

Twisted pair cable has been typically used in security system installation, can you post a picture of what you are concerned about?
